Starting from the village of Griante, the path climbs along the woods offering picturesque views of the lake, and following several niches with mosaics. From St. Martin church, situated in a park named after it and near a rock called St. Martin Stone, the scenario is just outstanding.
Going back, we pass through the small rural hamlet of Rogaro, visit its historic nucleus and the nearby medieval watchtower. Then, we reach the lake shore to walk along the Greenway Path and close the ring, passing in front of Villa Carlotta.
The environment to pass through during this excursion, surrounded by tall towers and spiers overlooking Lake Como, is truly fantastic.
About the church
The church of St. Martin was built in the 16th century. A legend has it that a young shepherdess found a wooden statue representing the Madonna and Child in a mountain cave. The statue was taken to the parish church where it miraculously disappeared and was found on the Stone of St. Martin: this was interpreted as the Virgin’s desire to be venerated on the mountain.

S. Martin’s church was built in the XVI century. A legend tells that a shepard girl found in a cave in the mountain a wooden statue representing the Madonna with Child. The statue was brought down to the parish church where it miraculously disappeared and was found again on the St. Martin’s Stone: this was interpreted as the desire of the Virgin to be venerated on the mountain.
